NOTES:
The Church of Old St.Mary's in Mary Street, Clonmel pre-dates 1385 and was a Catholic church until about 1569 when the then catholic vicar, William Prendergast, conformed and held the church for Protestantism. Catholic burials were still carried out there until as late as the 1930s for some old Clonmel families who maintained their rights to graves there.
There are many graves in the churchyard but only four (or possibly
five) Prendergast graves. These graves are side by side and are:
Grave 1. - The grave of Thomas Prendergast and his wife Ellen.
Grave 2. - The grave of Mary Prendergast the wife of Jeremiah
Prendergast who was the son of Thomas (above).
Grave 3. - The large grave of Thomas Prendergast and his wife Mary
also his son John and several of John's children.
Grave 4. - The grave of Geoffry Prendergast erected by his father
Robert Prendergast.
The above John Prendergast is a ficticious person entered to fill the gap in the years between Graves 1 & 2 and Grave 3. Therefore the assigning of Thomas and Robert as his sons is an assumption which has no evidence to support it.
